New record for ship in the Oil Port in Malmö

As we all know, records are there to be broken. And the record for a ship in the Oil Port in Malmö has now been broken again.

When the tanker Dubai Attraction docked at Quay 1004 in the Oil Port on the morning of 15 January, its 63,299 gt (gross tonnage) made it the biggest ever.

"It is certainly as big – 250 times 44 metres – as Overseas Redwood which docked here in October last year, but Dubai Attraction has a slightly greater GT", says Jens Haugsöen, manager of CMP´s operations in the Oil Port in Malmö.

Dubai Attraction has the maximum permissible length in the Oil Port and a margin of just one metre in terms of width. The tanker comes from England and will stay for 48 hours in Malmö before proceeding to the USA.

"Dubai Attraction will be taking 70,000 tonnes of vacuum gas oil on board before it leaves the port", says Jens Haugsöen.

The vacuum gas oil is purchased from ageing, outmoded refineries and then mixed with crude oil in modern refineries. The product that is formed can be upgraded to products including petrol and diesel. In this instance CMP’s customer is Scandinavian Tank Storage.
