Copenhagen named best Baltic cruise destination

Efforts to develop the city’s harbour areas and a high standard of tourist attractions win international attention for Copenhagen at the Bon Voyage Awards 2014.

Copenhagen Malmö Port (CMP) beat off competition from St. Petersburg and Helsinki to win the Best Baltic Port award, as announced August 13 at the Bon Voyage Awards 2014. The international travel resource Bon Voyage Magazine is an online portal for cruise guests, and presents cruise awards in four main categories. The Best Baltic Port award comes under the Destinations category. Within the same category, Shanghai was named Best Asian Port and Venice won Best Eastern Mediterranean Port.

Bon Voyage Magazine is dedicated to the cruise industry. It provides useful advice for new and seasoned travellers alike on topics such as choosing a ship and the best sights to see, with beautiful photographs and informative articles.

The jury’s reasons for selecting Copenhagen include the city’s recreational harbour areas, surrounded by areas such as Langelinie and Nyhavn. An excellent mix of shops, businesses and attractions welcome cruise guests, providing an opportunity to take in the wonderful atmosphere while listening to waves breaking against the quayside.

“We are thrilled to have won yet another award,” says Arnt Møller Pedersen, General Manager Cruise at Copenhagen Malmö Port. “This confirms our leading position in the Baltic region. Of course, this has only been possible thanks to the assistance of our fantastic partners.”

One of these partners is Wonderful Copenhagen, which is also delighted that cruise guests continue to appreciate Copenhagen as a destination.

“Here at Wonderful Copenhagen, we work to put Copenhagen on the world map and to keep attracting more tourists,” adds Claus Bødker, Director at Wonderful Copenhagen. “This award is therefore extremely important to us.”
