The initiative to refurbish DFDS’ passenger ships has paid off. The number of passengers on the major route between Copenhagen and Oslo has increased by 8%. At the same time the conference market has increased by 22%. Renovation of the two ships, Crown Seaways and Pearl Seaways, was completed this year. These renovations cost around SEK 120 million and included providing the ships with a larger number of exclusive cabins. Following the refurbishment, each ship can take up to 1,800 passengers. The fact that the conference market has grown particularly substantially is due to an expansion in marketing, through business travel agents as well as other avenues.
”In the communication we put greater emphasis on the opportunity to have meetings and conferences on board. And it seems to have delivered results as this area has increased by 22% year on year”, says Kevin Helsinghof, country manager for DFDS in Denmark and Sweden.
He also says that the conference areas have been modernised, equipped with new technical solutions and generally been freshened up. In addition, both Crown Seaways and Pearl Seaways have been furnished with new Italian restaurants offering pizza and pasta dishes.
